Widely held as the most romantic and beautiful towns in Asia, Udaipur is a spectacle to behold- with a skyline that features temple spikes, domes and traditional Indian architecture against a backdrop of a tranquil Lake Pichola.

Udaipur is not only a popular tourist attraction but also one that temps travelers to stay on longer than they had planned to..such is the attraction of this small charming city.

Historically the capital of the Rajput state of Mewar, in the 16th Century, Udaipur was established by Udai Singh II, the ruler, or maharana of Mewar state [The state itself having been established early 6th century].

What to See

The city has several attractions including the City Palace and the two palaces on the islands in Lake Pichola, one of them now a hotel- Lake Palace Hotel. Other sites of interest are the Jagdish Temple built in 1652, Sahelion ki Bari – a garden built in the 18th century for ladies of the royal household, and the rural arts and crafts center, Shilpgram, located just outside of the town center.
