Le Colonial is a boutique and historic hotel located in Fort Cochin, Kerela state. The orginal colonial house dates back to 1506. Just adjacent to St. Francis Church, it is reputed to have housed Vasco da Gama and the Saint. After 150 years as the Protuguese Governor's home, it was one of the rare houses not to be destroyed when Dutch took over Fort Cochin. It then housed the Dutch Governor for a century and a half till Ian vas Spall sold it to the British in 1795.
The hotel has now been restored carefully and offers a deluxe level of accommodation while offering guests an interesting insight into its history, reflected in everything from its decor to elements of the building and design.
